Citizen already has a large knowledge-base of mechanical movements

Thanks for the trek, Mike.

Hey!  The Mike Trek.

You noted that Citizen bought Frederique Constant, Arnold & Son, etc to gain knowledge of mechanical watchmaking.

Like all older watch brands, Citizen already has heritage in mechanical watchmaking.  In fact, they are possibly they largest Japanese supplier of mechanical movements to 3rd parties as the Miyota brand.

I have an old Miyota-powered watch from 1999 commemorating the Millennium Dome in London, UK. I can't recall where it is right now but I'll look for it.  The dial is silver coloured with an overhead plan of the Dome printed.

It may be that Citizen is trying to regain their skills in "fine" mechanical watchmaking but purchasing Frederique Constant seems not the ideal execution of that plan!  wink

MTF

Hi Gents and Ladies, I made a lightning visit to Las Vegas this weekend. Flew in, slept very little, walked 16000 steps around the conference hall, and flew home. As I am still baffled by the whole thing, please excuse my possibly confusing report. I norm...

I left you at the Speake-Marin booth, where we had a chat and looked at a few watches, all of which have been reported here before. He's become a "brand" rather than just a nice guy with a case of watches. The same booth is where I found the L. Kendall wa...

Wow, Speake-Marin really has become a brand...

Hi folks, thanks for hanging in here with me. You better take off your shoes, as your feet will be swelling up as we keep walking. I wandered through miles of diamonds, bracelets, brooches, and pretty girls who wanted to sell me eye cream to take away wri...

Bought La Joux-Perret to protect Bulova & grow

 By: cazalea : June 6th, 2016-06:33
Bulova and Wittnauer, acquired in 2008, and Citizen\'s own watches together have captured a dominant share in the $300-1,000 range in the US. Citizen needs movements for Bulova, and it wants to expand upwards into the next price range. And to do so effici...

To try on the Eco Drive One? I have read several reports on the piece and was certainly intrigued - just wanted to see what your live impressions were

No, didn't try it as there were just 3 and they were locked in the display case

If I'd caught them at a slow time it might have been possible. However, I asked a salesman who said frankly the one on strap feels too light for a man's wrist. He indicated that the steel bracelet models feel more substantial and cost 50-60% less than the...

Outstanding report!

But it is true there are great opportunities to showcase talent. I am just lost between the commerciality of such shows and genuine enthusiasm but it is for business not the public. Thanks for the coverage. Best Bill

THanks a lot for the report!
